In the year of 1952 a small group of saints, affiliated with the Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late Elder Edward Gillispie, while seeking a closer walk with the Lord, were enlightened by God concerning the oneness of the Godhead and the necessity of the WATER baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. Elder Gillispie, being led of God, contacted the late Bishop P. L. Scott (then District Elder) PASTOR of the Lively Stone Church of God in St. Louis, MO. Bishop Scott baptized Elder Gillispie and the saints in the name of Jesus; [HOPTAN 1952-1953]
In 1953, because of failing health, Elder Gillispie passed the mantel of leadership to Elder Harold Clemons, Sr. In the year of 1955, they moved to 4012 Bond Ave, Alorton, IL. It was at this time that the mission took the name by which it is presently recognized today, ‘THE HOUSE OF PRAYER TO ALL NATIONS,’ In the year of 1960 Elder Clemons left the East St. Louis area to work in another portion of Gods vineyard. [HOPTAN 1953-1960] The Lord sustained these faithful soldiers under the leadership of Deacon Jasper Andrews, Elder Lloyd Clemons, and Elder Emerson Henderson until 1963; [HOPTAN 1960-1963]
In June of 1963, the Lord moved on the heart of the late District Elder John H. Pettiford Sr.(then Elder) to accept the call to the pastorate of the assembly; In the year of 1969 they moved to another location at 5500 Bond Ave. [HOPTAN 1963-1979]
On Aug 13, 2010, the late Suffragan Bishop John H Pettiford transitioned to be with the Lord. On Nov 14, 2010, District Eld Anthony D Pettiford Sr. (then Elder) was elected as permanent pastor and installed on April 9, 2011 as the Pastor of the House Of Prayer To All Nations by Bishop Charles Ellis III, then Presiding Bishop of the PAW Inc. Pastor Anthony with 1st. Lady Tina Pettiford, represents the 3rd Generation of “Pettifords” serving as HOPTAN Church Pastor. [HOPTAN 2010-Until]
During the 70+ years of continued faithfulness God has blessed The House of Prayer to all Nations in the building of the kingdom.
Many Souls has been baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. God has blessed the Ministry to go beyond these four walls. Our Outreach Ministry has provided food to feed many. God has equipped us to truly be a Church to reach all Nations with His Word in person and virtually via Social Media. Also, He has blessed via telephone line to have people all over the Nations to join us in our Morning Prayer. Thank you Lord for blessing us and keeping us.
